Independent Contractor – Art Camp Instructor or Aide

The following are guidelines for the Art Camp Instructors and is not inclusive.

1)      Staffing for Art Camp will be strived for the following:

a.        A minimum of 10 kids to make a camp.

b.      A Teacher only for the first 11 kids.

c.       A Teacher and an Aide for 12-16 kids.

d.      A Teacher and two Aides for 17-20 kids.

2)      The Teacher can recommend aides to the Director of the Art Camp.  The Director of the Art Camp and no one else will make all offers for an Independent Contractor form of service.

3)      An Independent Contractor is not allowed to bring anyone else into the Arts Center to perform services of any type, for the Contractor or the Arts Center, without prior written approval from the Director of Art Camp.  This prior written approval will clearly state the purpose and the method of reimbursement if provided.

4)      Aides must be at least 18 years of age, and we prefer 21 years of age.

5)      Teachers and Aides will be paid an agreed amount.  This amount will be determined between the Director of the Art Camp and the Independent Contractor.  They are not to discuss their pay among themselves. Agreed amount of payment is based on experience and education.  The Fayetteville-Lincoln County Arts Center or Fayetteville-Lincoln County Arts League does not enter into Employee-Employer relationships.

6)      Lists of supplies are to be provided by the Art Camp Instructor in sufficient time for the items to be mail ordered (without the expense of overnight shipping charges).  All supplies are purchased by the Art Camp Director, the Instructor is asked not to purchase supplies without prior approval of the Art Camp Director.  Any supplies or equipment that the Instructor provides on their own are to be removed after their Art Camp is completed.  The Arts Center takes no liability on anything that is damaged, destroyed or disappears from the Center. Instructors will have free use of any equipment or supplies that they find around the Arts Center classroom that is not labeled other wise.

7)      The Arts Center will provide other such non-art related supplies (IE: Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Cups, Plates, Snack Food, Garbage Bags, Light Bulbs and Hand Soap etc.)  and will be responsible for determining the level of such. If such supplies should run short, the Instructor is to inform the Director of Art Camp in a timely matter.

8)      Teacher and Aides must provide the Art Camp Director with a valid Social Security Number and address.  This is for the Art League’s CPA to provide them with a 1099 for their taxes.  The Teacher or Aide is aware as a 1099 Independent Contractor they are responsible for their own Taxes (Federal, State, and City), unemployment tax, workers compensation, and Social Security.

9)      The Teacher is allowed to teach any Art subjects they desire as long as it is not judge unsuitable by the public or the Director of the Art Camp for the general age group of the class.  If in doubt ask!!

10)   The Teacher is allowed to determine and/or request what weeks during the summer school break and what times during the day they wish to hold Art Camp.  Art Camp traditionally has been from 10 AM to 3 PM.  We have found this works best to have that natural break (lunch) in the middle of the day. We have also found the week of July 4th, the first week after school is out and the week before school starts are not good weeks for maximum enrolment of camps.

11)   We have found that the best age groups tend to be 7 to 12 years of age to fill the camps.  The teacher can determine the age group range they wish to teach.

12)   The Arts Center provides the following services to the Teacher at no cost to them:

1.       Tables & Chair

2.       Classroom & necessary maintenance of the building

3.       Caulk Board

4.       Computer Projector on request

5.       Misc Non- Art Supplies listed in #6

6.       Free Advertising for the event

7.       Registration services-including tuition collection via Credit Card, Cash or Check

8.       Access to Art related equipment that has been purchased in the past or left over from previous Art Camps.

9.       If you need something, ask!  We can often get things on short-term loan.

13)      The Art Teachers are encouraged to review the supplies on hand prior to working up their lesson plans for their Art Camp.  They will be provided with a budget and in the event, they are able to perform an Art Camp to the satisfaction of the Director of the Art Camp additional compensation maybe provided to them.  The budget will include an amount for Art Supplies, Non-Art Supplies and Labor Cost. This determination for additional compensation will not be performed until two months after the completion of Art Camp and things such as damage to the building, plumbing, and the utility bill have been determined.

14)      Art Camp must be fun for the Children.

15)      If possible, we are not to skimp on supplies.  We do not want a child’s Art Project to be unsuccessful because they are using inferior art material.

16)      The parents are not to be asked to bring anything other than the child’s lunch and a drink to Art Camp.  Unsolicited donations are certainly acceptable.

17)      The only solicitation for Art Camps will be money to support the scholarship program, to allow children from families that would have difficult sending the child.

18)      Tuitions, discounts and scholarships are totally the discretion of the Art Camp Director.

19)      Art Camp Teacher’s do have the right to ask that a particular child not be allowed to attend their camp as long as it is not based on race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, familial status, parental status, religion, sexual orientation, genetic information, political beliefs, or reprisal.  The Teacher must provide the Art Camp Director a list prior to the start of Art Camp Registrations.

20)      The Art Camp Teacher’s does have the right to ask a parent not to bring a child back to Art Camp as long as their decisions is not based on race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, familial status, parental status, religion, sexual orientation, genetic information, political beliefs, or reprisal.  In most cases, this will be because the child has social or discipline problems.

21)      Unfortunately, the Arts Center building is not ADA Accessible, and we cannot therefore accommodate ADA request.
