Open Mic, November 20, 2014

The weekly open mic is held every Thursday night, but due to the upcoming holidays, there will not be a show on the Thursdays of Thanksgiving Nov 8th, Christmas Dec 25th, or New Year’s Day Jan 1st.

Singer/songwriter/musician Taylor Hoch, accompanied by guitarist Jay Jernigan and percussionist Ron Adcock, opened last week’s show playing three of Taylor’s original Americana songs, including the title song from her latest album “One More Time” which was just recently picked up by the BBC to be aired over their radio network.

Local songwriter Greg Mitchell was up next accompanied by Ron Hackett on guitar. Greg sang three of his wonderful and heartfelt original country songs. Guitarist/singer and open mic night regular Robert Foster followed Greg and performed three classic country/folk songs. Kameron Jones, singer/songwriter/musician and front man for the band “Old Nick and the Gypsies”, was up next and played three of his original American style songs.

Zack Huitt a newcomer to the Arts Center venue but an open mic veteran here in the Fayetteville area followed Kameron. He played guitar and sang three of his original songs. Next up was Rose Pyatt, another regular at the Arts Center. She sang two of her original songs and as a special treat had Stacy Irons, a newcomer to the stage, join her and sing a traditional country favorite. Co-host and musician Ron Hackett finished out the list for the evening playing three well known jazz pieces, and he was accompanied by Ron Adcock on percussion.

After the initial list, there was an encore round-robin giving all the artists a chance to play a few additional songs. Josh Passon who had missed the first round, played bass during the encore round and accompanied Kameron for his encores. Ron Hackett closed the show for the evening with a jazz jam and was joined by Josh Passon on bass and Ron Adcock on percussion.

“It was a terrific evening for anyone who loves original music! We had a good sized audience who got to listen to lots of great original songs by local artists,” said Ron Hackett.
